The Brief
Element works to help industrial companies combine modern information technology and operational technology analytic systems through enterprise software products. Traditionally, these two sectors, IT and OT, have two separate, disconnected data sets. Believing that data is the foundation of digitally-enabled operations, they help their customers combine these data sets to find insights that transform operational performance, resulting in huge savings.
Ahead of a major product launch, Element approached Backdoor to update their identity and website. Since their product and market can be perceived as highly specialized and overwhelming, it was essential to develop an identity that would attract all audiences. The result was a simple, approachable identity that allows all audiences to understand and digest the content—an identity that allows for multiple levels of information to be easily understood. Echoing the simplification that their products bring to their customers.

Seeking to help clarify broad or complex concepts in an easily digestible manner, we developed a set of what we call “pattern illustrations” to be used in large scale applications across the website and out-of-home use cases. These illustrations take inspiration from the symbol’s circular form to help create a story-telling narrative; working in conjunction with copy to ensure customers would easily understand the concepts and information.

With such an extensive product offering, providing solutions to many different markets, it was integral to create a set of icons to help tell Element’s story in greater detail.
